PALMEIRO SLAM BURIES TIGERS

DETROIT -- Rafael Palmeiro smacked an upper-deck grand slam and Brady Anderson homered and had 3 RBI as the Baltimore Orioles crushed the Detroit Tigers 13 to 2.

Brady Anderson smashed a lead-off home run to start the game, propelling his average to .340.  Tigers right fielder Melvin Nieves snapped an ankle on a strikeout, injuring him for the next six games. Bobby Higginson was a lone bright spot for the Tigers, he was 2-for-3.

The winning pitcher was Mike Mussina(6-4) who allowed 2 runs in 7 innings.  Brian Moehler(1-7) was given the loss.  He pitched 5 innings giving up 7 hits and 2 walks.  The Tigers are now 14.5 games back in the East.
